A travel journal app that builds itself around your route

The hardest part of keeping a travel diary is starting one. A blank page at the end of a long day is why most of them stop after the first trip. TheRouteStory's Travel Book arrives already built — the route you recorded, the stops you marked, the photos you took, laid out as a book — so the only thing left to add is what you thought.

What is already in the book before you write a word

Pages that turn

The Travel Book is a book, not a scrolling feed. Pages turn with a drag and fold as they go, on a phone and in a browser alike. An open book has quiet background music, which you can mute — and the mute sticks, so nobody has to silence it twice.

Your writing stays yours

Each page has room for a memory in your own words. The app can also generate a few lines about a page for you, and a checkpoint with no photo of its own can be given a real stock photograph of that place — but generated text is kept in a separate place from yours and can never overwrite it. Turning a generated note into your own is an explicit action; deleting it leaves your writing untouched.

Three ways to keep it

  1. In the app, on your shelf, alongside every other journey. Your journeys are mirrored on the device, so a book opens without a connection.
  2. As a PDF — an A5 portrait export with every chapter, photo and note, saved into a RouteStory folder on your phone and openable straight from the confirmation.
  3. As a link. Share a public journey and it opens in any browser as the same book, page turns and music included, with no app and no account needed by whoever you sent it to.

Privacy is the default, not a setting you go looking for

Every journey starts private. A private journey shows other travellers nothing but a route-only teaser — no checkpoints, no photos, no diary text, no film — and that is enforced in the database, not just hidden in the interface. Making a journey public is a deliberate choice, and one you can reverse.

Frequently asked

Is TheRouteStory a travel journal or a video app?

Both, from one recording. The same journey produces the Travel Book and the route film; you never enter anything twice.

Can I use the journal without recording a route?

The journal is built from a recorded journey, so a route comes first — but it can be as small as a walk around a neighbourhood.

Can I export my travel journal?

Yes. Every book exports as an A5 PDF containing the cover, route and stats, each checkpoint chapter, the gallery, the journey details and your own notes.

Can someone read my journal without the app?

Yes, if you have made that journey public. The shared link opens the same book in a browser on a phone or a desktop. Private journeys are not readable from a link at all.

What does it cost?

The free plan covers 20 photos per journey, unlimited place markups, unlimited Travel Books, two trip videos a month, automatic cloud backup and public sharing.
